Reflection – His Love is Stronger than Fear!

December 25, 2018 – “Dear children, on this day of grace, I am calling you to love. Little children, God loves you immeasurably and that is why, little children, full of trust and without looking back and without fear, completely surrender your hearts to Him so that God may fill them with His love. Do not be afraid to believe in His love and mercy, because His love is stronger than every one of your weaknesses and fears. Therefore, my children, full of love in your hearts, trust in Jesus and say your ‘yes’ to Him, because He is the only way which leads you to the Eternal Father.”

“…Do not be afraid to believe in His love and mercy, because His love is stronger than every one of your weaknesses and fears…”

This is such a powerful sentence. One that, I feel, we all need to hear over and over again, in good and bad times, because it brings such hope!

In spite of all my shortcomings and fears, I find great comfort in knowing that God’s love and mercy is greater than all of them combined; that is His love and mercy is greater than my own capacity to love and be merciful; and that regardless of how many times I fail, He is still ready to love and forgive.

Is this not the ultimate love? What more could we ever ask for!

His love and mercy can, and will, sustain us! No matter what!

The enemy of the soul, who is also called the accuser of the soul, tirelessly works to get us to dwell on every single weakness and fear we have, turning something that is the size of a grain of rice into Mount Everest. Deceiving us into believing that our faults and problems are somehow beyond God. Nonsense!

Jesus suffered and died on the Cross because He is merciful and loves! There’s literally nothing else that could ever exceed such a sacrifice, or even such love, on this earth! God the Father sent His only Son, Jesus, to die, out of love for us and to save us from sin. If we Christians believe this, then what makes us think the Lord will not help us in our needs, regardless of what they are or how daunting they may be?

We may lack much, but God does not lack a thing. His love and mercy makes up for everything we lack, and can turn anything unto good. He is the only One Who fills the gaps within us. He is everything!

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 4:4-7]

In this new year, the words of Our Lady and the Scripture should be something we keep close to our hearts. Whatever your hopes, plans and goals; whatever fears, challenges or uncertainties; whatever you left behind, be it good or bad, in the previous year; whatever it is at all that sits heavy upon your heart and mind in the new year, surrender it all to Jesus. Because His love and mercy will see us through it all. His love and mercy will make us new again! We have only but to say “yes” to Him.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his love endures forever.

Let Israel say:
    “His love endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say:
    “His love endures forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord say:
    “His love endures forever.”

When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
    he brought me into a spacious place.
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?
The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
    I look in triumph on my enemies.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in humans.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in princes.
All the nations surrounded me,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
They surrounded me on every side,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
They swarmed around me like bees,
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and my defense;
    he has become my salvation.

Shouts of joy and victory
    resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!
     The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
    the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
 I will not die but live,
    and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
 The Lord has chastened me severely,
    but he has not given me over to death.
 Open for me the gates of the righteous;
    I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.
 This is the gate of the Lord
    through which the righteous may enter.
 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
    you have become my salvation.

The stone the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
    and it is marvelous in our eyes.
 The Lord has done it this very day;
    let us rejoice today and be glad.

 Lord, save us!
    Lord, grant us success!

 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
    From the house of the Lord we bless you.
 The Lord is God,
    and he has made his light shine on us.
With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
    up[c] to the horns of the altar.

 You are my God, and I will praise you;
    you are my God, and I will exalt you.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his love endures forever.

[Psalm 118]
