Reflection – His Footprints & the Light of Life

According to the will of the Heavenly Father, as the mother of Him who loves you, I am here with you to help you to come to know Him and to follow Him. My Son has left you His foot-prints to make it easier for you to follow Him. – August 2, 2017, Medjugorje

jesusthewaythetruthandthelifeWhen I think of Jesus’ footprints, I think of the Gospel. In the Gospel, Jesus revealed to us the path of holiness and righteousness we are each called to live. He showed us how to baptize, pray, fast, repent, forgive, and love. The traditions and Sacraments that make up the True Magisterium of the Church, which the apostles evangelized throughout the world after His Ascension, all came from the Heart and Founder of the Church: Jesus. Jesus left us His footprints, His way, for us to live and obey in order to reach eternal salvation.

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” [John 8:12]

Jesus is the light of the world, and His way is the path of light. Somewhere along the way, in the midst of various modernistic, secular and socialist ideologies, many have lost that path. History keeps repeating itself because perhaps we haven’t actually learned from our mistakes. The path of light is both denied and forgotten by the world, and many do not truly know (or maybe have never known) Jesus. And so, in order to snatch souls back to Himself, the Lord has sent us His Mother.

According to the will of the Heavenly Father, as the mother of Him who loves you, I am here with you to help you to come to know Him and to follow Him.

The Lord has not abandoned us. He has not left us to waste away in our own ruin. His plan of salvation is still in action today, now through Our Lady’s presence among us. The only person on earth who knew Jesus better than the apostles was and is the Blessed Mother. She has come among us to bring us back to her Son Jesus; to help us to get to know Him better and trust Him. By her consoling and tender motherly love, she is teaching our hearts to fall back in love with our Creator and Savior.

Our Lady’s presence in Medjugorje is an incredible testament of this plan in action. So many conversions, miracles, and experiences. The joy, light, and love upon the faces of pilgrims as they gather in prayer, song, and participating in the Sacraments. It’s really quite moving!

The other day, while praying my Rosary, I went to MaryTV. And when I opened the home page I had arrived just in time to see the live streaming of the outdoor evening Mass at St. James Parish during the ongoing Youth Festival celebration, right before Holy Communion was about to be given. The funny was I had original visited MaryTV for something unrelated to what I stumbled upon, but I knew for some reason I was brought there to watch the live streaming of the Mass.medjugorje-prayer-youth-festival_4

I decided to stay and watch, and what I witnessed nearly brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t tell you how many people exactly were in attendance during this Mass, but I can say that it was no wonder why the parish celebrated the Mass outside. If they hadn’t, the parish alone would not be able to fit the sea of pilgrims who came to adore and receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. There was so many people! And because it was the Youth Festival, there an immense number of young people participating in Mass and waving their country’s flag. So many flags! Spain, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Brazil, Germany, Romania, France, just to name a few. And, yes, my fellow Americans, I saw Old Glory there, too! There was even a group of youth holding up a beautiful banner of St. John Paul II.

It was just so profoundly beautiful! People and families, young and old, from many parts of the world gathering around the Altar. Singing, praying, crying, and smiling; rosaries in hand, receiving Communion, giving thanks to God. You could just see that very light of life in their eyes! And in that moment as I felt tears of joy welling up in my eyes, I remembered my own experience of the first time I heard Our Lady’s messages, and how she helped bring me closer to Jesus than ever before; to live my Catholic faith and not use it as a mere label without substance.

What Our Lady is doing in Medjugorje is God’s plan for the world. She is calling all hearts back to God so that they can attain that same light of life Jesus has left us to follow from His footprints.

Thank you, Jesus, for loving us so much by sending Your Mother, Mary, among us to give us a mother’s guidance and help in following You better. May more hearts find Your Sacred Heart within the Immaculate Heart of Mary!
