Reflection – To Jesus Through Mary

July 2, 2017 – “My children, I am teaching you how to be worthy of His love, to direct your thoughts to Him, to live my Son. Apostles of my love, I am covering you with my mantle, because as a mother I desire to protect you.”

I remember once reading a newsletter from Sister Emmanuel Maillard regarding conversations she had with those who still doubted Our Lady’s presence in Medjugorje. In her experience, she found that most people who questioned the Blessed Mother’s apparitions were of the age of 60 or over, while younger people never confronted her with such doubts.

Why is that?

Sister Emmanuel says the answer is made quite clear when she’d present a set of questions to doubters, and according to her, their answers were usually the same. Here’s an example from Sister Emmanuel:

When you were little, at school, did more than 60% of your classmates have parents who were divorced, and suffer cruel inner wounds?

Oh, no! I knew maximum one or two children with divorced parents.

At the age of 10, did teachers bring condoms to class and explain how to use them?

At 10, I didn’t even know they existed!

When you were little, did you constantly have headphones on, with potential unlimited access to all sorts of programs that could be violent, perverse, pornographic, or even Satanic? (Keeping in mind that some music bands spread subliminal messages to incite people to perversion and suicide.)

Oh, no! In my time, no one used headphones.

Did people try to sell you drugs outside of school? Were there drug dealers among you?

As for me, I never saw that, although dealers probably already existed.

In your “Catholic” school, did you take field trips to Disney World, for example, on Good Friday?

Impossible! At the time, we respected religious Feast days. Besides, my religion teacher was a believer.

When you were a teenager, had you already been beaten up in the street without any reason? Or bullied for money while the Police, scared, didn’t do anything about it?

These things happened, but they were very rare.

Did “Gay Pride” exist then?

Oh no! In those days, it was another world! We could parade in the streets of my town in our communicant’s frocks with no problem. There was a long procession for the feast of Corpus Christi, and we would throw rose petals to Jesus in the monstrance. But now it’s forbidden. “It would disturb traffic” they say.

As a child and as an adolescent, did you talk among friends about instructions for “assisted suicide”? Did you know about “the choking game”? Role-playing games?

No! Never heard of them then.

When you started going to University, how many of your classmates had already committed suicide?

None! But you would hear of some extremely rare cases.

When you were 5 years old, did anyone at school suggest to you to change your gender? Were you told you could marry someone of the same sex?

You must be kidding! It was unthinkable!

As a child, did you have the legal possibility to send one of your parents to jail by saying they had hit you?

I’m beginning to understand, Sister…

Wait, that’s not all! As a young teenager, were you allowed to go to nightclubs until the middle of the night? And if so, did you then run the risk of waking up the next morning in the bed of some stranger with no memory of the night before, after having been given drugs mixed with the drinks you were generously offered?

Hum….sorry, what is that?

And I’m not mentioning the “Satan Fests”, “Hell Fests”, and their catastrophic consequences for young people! I’m not even mentioning abortion and euthanasia.

Well my friend, now, be aware that your grandchildren who are between the ages of 4 and 25 today are bombarded with these kind of proposals, which damage them deeply and sometimes destroy them. So then… Are you still going to reproach the Mother of God, who is also their Mother, for coming every day for 3 short minutes in order to bless them, help them and pray for them, while Satan is live and active 24/7?

I hadn’t thought of that… I’ll think about it…

Sister Emmanuel is so right.

The questions she presents to skeptics are painful to hear, but they are so because they’re real. This is what the youth are facing on a daily basis. Some of us can turn a blind eye and pretend it isn’t that bad, but the fact of the matter is souls have never been in more danger than it is today.f544428db2bb00d8d47fe8f653481600

Children as young as 5 years-old are being spoon-fed propaganda and lies that serve nothing more than to destroy their innocence, destroy their families, and to rip them away from the loving hands of their Creator.

Is it so shocking or difficult to believe then, looking at all that the souls are being relentlessly bombarded with today, that the Lord has sent the Mother of God to save them, and lead them back to her Son Jesus?

“I know that you are thinking of me with love and hope. I, too, feel love for all of you, just as my most beloved Son also feels it: He who, through his merciful love, is always sending me to you anew; He who was man; He who was and is God – one and triune; He who suffered in body and soul for your sake; He who made Himself bread to feed your souls and thus to save them.”

Through His merciful love, is always sending her anew to us. We can clearly see from the words of our Mother that it is His will that she is here fighting for us and protecting us. Jesus wants us to also love His mother, just as He also loves her.

Devotion to the Blessed Mother will lead us to even greater devotion to Jesus. She helps us to know Him better, love Him more, and to serve Him without faltering. There’s no one else on earth who knows Jesus, our Lord and Savior, better than Our Lady. She, who is the greatest of all mothers, because she is the Mother of God and ours, too.

Archbishop Sheen wrote:

If her Divine Son had not intended that His Mother should be honored where He is adored, He would never have permitted these prophetic words of hers to have had fulfillment.

(Fulton Sheen, The World’s First Love, p.49)

The prophetic words Sheen is referring to is the Magnificat [Luke 1:46-56].

It was through her that He became the bridge between the Divine and the human. If we take her away, then either God does not become man, or He that is born of her is a man and not God. Without her we would no longer have Our Lord! If we have a box in which we keep our money, we know that one thing we must always have give attention to is they key; we never think that the key is the money, but we know that without the key we cannot get our money. Our Blessed Mother is like the key. Without her we can never get to Our Lord, because He came through her. She is not to be compared to Our Lord, for she is creature and He is a Creator. But if we lose her, we cannot get to Him. That is why we pay so much attention to her; without her we could never understand how that bridge was built between Heaven and earth.

[…] It is easer to understand the meek and humble heart of Christ by looking at His Mother. She holds all the great Truths of Christianity together, as a piece of wood holds a kite. Children wrap the string of a kite around a stick and release the strong as the kite climbs to the heavens. Mary is like that piece of wood. Around her we wrap all the precious strings of the great Truths of our holy Faith—for example, the Incarnation, the Eucharist, the Church. No matter how far we get above the earth, as the kite may, we always have need of Mary to hold the doctrines of the Creed together. If we threw away the stick, we would no longer have the kite; if we threw away Mary, we would never have Our Lord. He would be lost in the Heavens, like our runaway kite, and that would be terrible, indeed, for us on earth.

Mary does not prevent our honoring Our Lord. Nothing is more cruel than to say that she takes souls away from Christ. That could mean that Our Lord chose a mother who is selfish, He Who is Love itself. If she kept us from her Son, we should disown her! But is not she, who is Mother of Jesus, good enough for us sinners? We would never have had Our Divine Lord if He had not chosen her. [p.79-80]

You can see how she is teaching us to be more worthy of Jesus’ love, to live united with Him. She is teaching us to be strong, persevering, and to fight against evil through prayer and obedience to God. A soul has nothing to lose, but everything to gain by seeking the help of this most blessed and loving Mother! She conforms our hearts more and more to Jesus!

St. Louis de Montfort was one of many Saints who understand that the most secure way to the Heart of Jesus was through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Here’s what he wrote in his book True Devotion to Mary:

All our perfection consists in being conformed, united, and consecrated to Jesus Christ; and therefore the most perfect of all devotions is, without any doubt, that which the most perfectly conforms, unites, and consecrates us to Jesus Christ. Now, Mary being the most conformed of all creatures to Jesus Christ, it follows that, of all devotions, that which most consecrates and conforms the soul to our Lord is devotion to His holy Mother, and that the more a soul is consecrated to Mary, the more is it consecrated to Jesus. Hence it comes to pass, that the most perfect consecration to Jesus Christ is nothing else but a perfect and entire consecration of ourselves to the Blessed Virgin, and this is the devotion which I teach; or in other words, a perfect renewal of the vows and promises of holy Baptism.

This is God’s will, as both Sheen and St. Louis de Montfort both teach. Our Lady has been sent among us to protect and teach us the way of Christ; to help those who have wandered off the path to return to their loving and merciful Savior; to introduce her Son to those who never knew Him; to become prayer warriors, lovers of truth, and protectors of peace and goodness.

The world has become severely sick. It is in need of nursing and healing. Who better than a Mother to nurse their sick children back to health? May Our Lady guide us more and more each day to the Heart of Jesus, and to love Him more so that we can love Him forever in Heaven!
