December 25, 1999 – “…Throw all darkness out of your heart and allow God’s light and God’s love to enter into your heart and to dwell there forever…”
I’ve been thinking a lot about this as of late, about throwing out the darkness. In life we accumulate so much junk, so much sludge that clogs our minds and hearts.
Bad memories, insecurities, regrets, guilt, false imaginations, fears, misunderstandings, hurt, pain; distorted memories, thoughts and ideas; broken relationships, missed opportunities, betrayals, failures, problems and difficulties; doubts, discouragements, illnesses, financial issues; obsessions, negativities, stress, anxiety.
Too often we let these things get the best of us. They occupy our thought-life, our energy, and we give it power by feeding it. Evil takes advantage of our weakness, and negativity prevails.
We give it so much room in ourselves it replays over and over again like some broken record until it eats away at us. It holds us back. Makes us paralyzed, stuck in mud. A never-ending vicious cycle.
We get so consumed in whatever problem we’re so focused on that the details grow completely out of proportion. We isolate ourselves, magnifying the darkness, and shutting out the light. Reality itself becomes a distorted mess, and we fall into an emotional frenzy.
Must we always obsess on the “bad”? Is it wise to lose sleep and make ourselves sick over it, even after we’ve done all we could? Does it extend our life? Does it bring us closer to God? On the contrary, it pulls us away from Him. It keeps us further from His light, and trapped in the cold dark.
Do not entertain the negative.
Do not dwell on it.
Do not converse with it.
Do not attempt to analyze it.
Do not give it any free space in your life.
Negativity is like sugar to the evil spirits. Don’t feed the enemy: the prince of lies, the accuser of the soul. Don’t play by his game.
Throw out the darkness. Magnify goodness. Magnify God!
Praise Him. Run to Him. When it feels like things are getting too much to handle say, “Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of anything!”
Give everything to Him. Drop it at the foot of the Cross, and don’t look back.
Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you. [Philippians 4:6-9]
God created everything. He knows, He sees, and He loves. All is under His domain. He knows the count of hairs on your head, and knows what you need better than you do. His Mercy and Grace is infinite!
The devil is nothing but a mere grain of sand compared to God. What have we to be afraid of?
Open your heart, your mind, to His light and love! His light will burn away every darkness.
Ask Him to cleanse your mind. Every thought, every memory, every idea. Let His light be our disinfectant. Let Him throw out the junk and clear the smog.
Let us abandon our troubles, our worries, ourselves completely to Him. If we do, we open ourselves up to miracles and graces. Let Jesus lift you up!
Call on the Blessed Mother, too. Give her your concerns and struggles. She will intercede for you before Jesus like she did at the Wedding Feast. Let her purity, humility, and motherly love clear out the rust and garbage in your life. Ask her to pray with you and for you. She will cover you with her mantle, and never abandon you.
Let us not waste another moment on the darkness. Let us today make a resolution to invite God’s light, and magnify it brilliantly. Choose the light of life, not the darkness of death.
Here’s five messages from Our Lady we could use today in our rosaries and prayers to meditate on as we think about the importance of cutting out the negativity, and darkness, in our lives. Let the words of the Blessed Mother encourage and comfort you as we fix our gazes upward to Heaven, and not the darkness below.
June 2, 2010 – “Dear Children, Today I call you with prayer and fasting to clear the path in which my Son will enter into your hearts. Accept me as a mother and a messenger of God’s love and His desire for your salvation. Free yourself of everything from the past which burdens you, that gives you a sense of guilt, that which previously led you astray in error and darkness. Accept the light. Be born anew in the righteousness of my Son. Thank you.”
April 2, 2016 – “Dear children, do not have hearts that are hard, closed and filled with fear. Permit my motherly love to illuminate them and fill them with love and hope; so that, as a mother, I may soothe your pains because I know them, I experienced them. Pain elevates and is the greatest prayer. My Son, in a special way, loves those who suffer pains. He sent me to soothe them for you and bring hope. Trust in Him. I know that it is difficult for you because you see more and more darkness around you. My children, it is necessary to break it by prayer and love. The one who prays and loves is not afraid, he has hope and a merciful love, he sees the light and sees my Son. As my apostles, I call you to keep trying to be an example of merciful love and hope. Always pray anew for all the more love because merciful love brings light which breaks every darkness – it brings my Son. Do not be afraid, you are not alone, I am with you. I implore you to pray for your shepherds that at every moment they may have love, that they may work for my Son with love – through Him and in memory of Him. Thank you.”
May 25, 2006 – “Dear children! Also today I call you to put into practice and to live my messages that I am giving you. Decide for holiness, little children, and think of heaven. Only in this way, will you have peace in your heart that no one will be able to destroy. Peace is a gift, which God gives you in prayer. Little children, seek and work with all your strength for peace to win in your hearts and in the world. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
December 25, 1999 – “Dear children! Today on the birthday of my Son, when my heart is filled with immeasurable joy and love, I invite you to a complete openness and to a complete abandonment to God. Throw all darkness out of your heart and allow God’s light and God’s love to enter into your heart and to dwell there forever. Be carriers of God’s light and love to all mankind, so that all in you and through you may feel and experience true light and love which only God can give you. I bless you with my motherly blessing.”
October 25, 2013 – “Dear children! Today I call you to open yourselves to prayer. Prayer works miracles in you and through you. Therefore, little children, in the simplicity of heart seek of the Most High to give you the strength to be God’s children and for Satan not to shake you like the wind shakes the branches. Little children, decide for God anew and seek only His will, and then you will find joy and peace in Him. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
If you’re struggling with stress and anxiety, I highly recommend the Dolindo/Surrendering to the Will of God Novena. I received this prayer from a friend a few years ago, and it’s been a huge help ever since. You can check it out HERE.
