Natural Ways to Help Remove Scars

Scars. We all get them, and they’re definitely not fun. Scars can be left on skin from injuries, acne, or minor abrasions ranging from severe to subtle in appearance. Some scar removers can be found in your local drugstores, but to be quite honest (and speaking from experience) most of them don’t do a whole lot. Plus, the worry of harmful chemicals doesn’t help much either, or the fact that those products tend to cost a pretty penny.

Turning an alternative, and more natural, route to ditching scars has shown to not only be safer, but also more effective. In a world filled with technology and countless pharmaceuticals, it never ceases to amaze how all the most effective treatments most of us are looking for has been on God’s green earth all along (and not concocted in some laboratory).

Here’s a list of natural, cost-effective treatments that’ll help diminish, or completely remove, scars.

Lemon Juice

This has a bleaching effect on skin, helping to remove scars and blemishes. Lemon juice can be applied directly on scars using a cotton ball once a day, or you can cut a lemon in half and rub the juicey side on the scar. The fading of the scar should be noticeable within a few days. For a natural moisturizer, try applying olive oil afterwards as it’ll aid the skin renewal process.

Baking Soda

Mix one teaspoon of baking soda and two teaspoons of purified water, and rub directly onto scar for 1 minute before rinsing. This will remove dead, damaged skin and help promote collagen production.

Aloe-vera

Aloe has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce surface swelling, relieve skin of irritations, and help break up dead skin in wounds. It also helps repair damaged skin cells by penetrating deep into skin, moisturizing it, and increasing production of collagen to promote healing.

Honey

Honey’s got a lot going on besides being a sweet treat. It contains awesome antibacterial properties that help heal wounds and grow new tissues. This then helps reduce the appearance of unwanted scars. Apply some honey to affected area, cover with clean gauze, and let it stand overnight.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is rich in vitamin E, a powerful antixodiant that slows aging and repairs skin. Plus, research has confirmed that olive oil is an effective fighter against breast cancer. Massage oil on scar several times a day until it fades. Olive oil speeds up the healing process while keeping skin moisturized.

Cocoa Butter

Probably the most well known product for treating scars, especially for pregnant women. It contains loads of antioxidants that safeguard skin while keeping it soft and supple. Plus, cocoa butter smells great!

Tea Tree Oil

Containing antibacterial qualities that reduce scars, and treats acne, tea tree oil is highly potent. Be sure to dilute it first before use. Make a mixture of 25% oil and 75% warm water, and apply to scar. If too strong, add more water. Also you can use aloe-vera instead of water with the oil if you have sensitive skin.

Tomatoes

Like lemons, tomatoes have a bleaching effect. Slice tomato in half and apply to scar. Tomato juice will also work fine as well.

Cucumber Juice

A natural astringent that opens pores and cleans dirt, and oils from face. It’s also anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce redness of scars. Use on scars every day until healed.

Lavender Oil

One of the few essential oils that’s gentle enough to apply directly onto skin. Apply and massage a few drops on scar 2-3 times a day. Lavender oil can also be applied to minor cuts or burns to help protect against risk of new scars or marks.

Flaxseed Oil

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for reducing both old and new scars. Apply onto scar a few times a day after showering, and before bedtime.

Purified Water

The best and cost-effective way to get rid of scars is to drink plenty of water. Water cleanses skin from within, including scars. It aids in the removal of toxins, building new skin cells.

Apple Cider Vinegar

With a cotton ball, apply some of the vinegar onto scar. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, then wash it off. Do this several times a day, and if too strong, add water to vinegar.

Vitamin E Oil

Effective, and containing powerful antioxidants, vitamin E oil is preferred by a majority of holistic therapists and dermatologists for scar treatment. It helps reduce wrinkles, scars, brown spots, and clearing cuticles. Apply some oil onto scar once a day, best before bedtime, until healed.

One thing to keep in mind when treating scars is that it takes patience and perseverance. Depending on the type of scar you have, it’s not going to disappear completely overnight. The body needs adequate time to heal and renew itself. But using these kind of methods will show visible, effective results in scar healing within days.

Personally, I’ve been using the vitamin E oil treatment once a day, along with cleaning the affected area with witch hazel beforehand, and I’ve already noticed fading within a few days.

So, don’t give up, stick with it and be patient. You’ll be kissing those pesky scars goodbye in no time, leaving you with happier, healthier looking skin!
